An Introduction to Shanxi University of Finance and Economics
Shanxi University of Finance and Economics (SXUFE) was founded in 1951. It is a university with a long history and its own distinguishing features. SXUFE is located in Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi Province and also known as the “Dragon City”. Over the past 69 years, SXUFE, promoting culture and education and passing the torch from generation to generation, has educated over 220,000 talents in different fields for the society and nation, making a great contribution to the local and national social and economic development. SXUFE has historically taken economics, management, statistics, and law as its advantage and features. SXUFE has now a center for post-doctoral studies, 4 doctorate programs in first-level disciplines and 8 Master’s degree programs in first-level disciplines. Currently, SXUFE has about 1700 faculty members, including over 1200 full-time teachers, 500 professors and associate professors, and 530 teachers with Doctor’s degrees. SXUFE has a complete range of educational programs for training bachelors, masters, doctors and postdoctoral students. SXUFE has over 17,000 undergraduates, about 4,000 Master’s Degree applicants, 200 Doctor’s Degree applicants, 10,600 continuing education students, and about 100 international students of all types from 10 different countries.
Recruitment Categories and Specialties
International students are divided into two categories: academic (undergraduates, Master’s degree applicants and Doctor’s degree applicants) and non-academic (preparatory and advanced students etc.).

Eligibility Requirements
Basic Requirements
Applicants shall be willing to abide by the laws, regulations and policies of the Chinese government as well as the rules and regulations of SXUFE; and shall respect the customs and habits of the Chinese people.
Applicants shall be able to provide a financial guarantee letter, a medical examination result and a no-criminal record proof.
Identity and Nationality Requirements
Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens with valid foreign passports. In case that Chinese expatriates or foreign citizens of Chinese origin or Chinese citizens who have immigrated to foreign countries apply to study in China as foreign students, they shall hold valid foreign passports or other proofs of nationality with a validity period of 4 years (inclusive of) or above; and shall, in addition, have lived in foreign countries for more than 2 years ( in a given year, a full nine-month stay in foreign countries as per the entry and exit stamps will be calculated as a full year) over the past 4 years (as of April 30, 2021).
Academic and Age Requirements
3.1 Requirements for Degree Applicants
3.1.1 Bachelor’s Degree Applicants: The applicants shall have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be 18 years of age or older but under 35;
3.1.2 Master’s Degree Applicants: The applicants shall be a university graduate with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, aged 18 or older but under 40;
3.1.3 Doctor’s Degree Applicants: The applicants shall have graduated with a Master’s degree or equivalent, and be 18 years of age or older but under 45.
3.2 Requirements for Non-degree Applicants
Applicants shall provide their highest academic qualifications and be 18 years of age and older, preppies shall be under 35, advanced students under 45, and researchers or scholars under 60.
3.3 For applicants under 18, their parents shall formally entrust a foreigner or a Chinese permanently residing in China as their guardian; and shall provide the proof of identity of the guardian, together with letters of guarantee and guardianship.
Language Proficiency Requirements
4.1 Any degree applicant who desires to take courses taught in Chinese shall provide his or her latest HSK Level 4 score (200 or above). After registration, applicants shall also pass a Chinese language proficiency test organized by SXUFE.
4.2 Any degree applicant who desires to take courses taught in Chinese but has not obtained the abovementioned score shall take preparatory courses for one year and pass the HSK Level 4 test (with a score of 200 or above).
4.3 Any degree applicant who desires to take courses taught in English shall meet one of the following conditions:
4.3.1 The applicant’s mother tongue is English;
4.3.2 The highest academic qualification obtained by the applicant is on a program taught in English;
4.3.3 The applicant are able to provide scores for the following international English tests: IELTS Academic 6.0 points, no band score below 5.5; TOEFL 85 points, no section score below 20 points or equivalent;
Before starting major courses, the applicant will have to pass an English test organized by SXUFE.
Degree applicants: If an applicant applies to start his or her study in SXUFE from the autumn term in 2021, he or she shall submit the following application materials before April 30, 2021.
(1) A scanned copy of all the used pages of passport (For a renewed passport, a scanned copy of each and every page of both the new and old passports);
(2) Soft copies of English and Chinese résumé;
(3) A scanned copy of Chinese or English proficiency certificate;
(4) A soft copy of the academic transcript for the highest degree and a scanned copy of the diploma, including:
Bachelor’s Degree Applicants: high school transcripts and graduation diploma
Master’s Degree Applicants: undergraduate transcripts, gradation diploma and Bachelor’s degree certificate
Doctor’s Degree Applicants: Master’s degree program transcripts, graduate diploma and Master’s degree certificate
(5) Bachelor’s degree applicants shall submit a study plan. Master’s and Doctor’s degree applicants shall submit a research plan.
(6) Two Letters of Recommendation
Bachelor’s Degree Applicants: Two letters of recommendation from high school teachers;
Master’s Degree Applicants: Two letters of recommendation from associate professors or above;
Doctor’s Degree Applicants: Two letters of recommendation from associate professors or above;
(7) Financial guarantee: The applicant shall be able to present proof(s) of a personal bank account deposit of RMB80, 000 or equivalent. (If the applicant does not have a personal account, a guarantee letter from his or her relatives or from the school or the institution with which SXUFE cooperates is also acceptable);
(8) Result of physical examination;
(9) No-criminal record proof.

(If the applicant does not have a personal account, a guarantee letter from his or her relatives or from the school or the institution with SXUFE cooperates is also acceptable);
(5) Result of physical examination;
(6) No-criminal record proof.

Recruitment Procedures:
Application materials are reviewed by School of International Education;
Candidates are decided by relevant Schools as per the reviewed applications;
Exams and interviews are organized by School of International Education and other relevant Schools;
A list of candidates is proposed by an expert panel and publicized on the website of School of International Education for 5 working days. Admission notice will be sent to those who have received no objections;
When an applicant is accepted, he or she will receive the following documents from SXUFE:

Registration Instructions
Applicants shall apply for an “X” visa at their local Chinese Embassy or Consulate with their passport, admission notification, the JW202 or JW201 Form, i.e. the Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China, Medical Checklist and other required materials.
Applicants shall show up at SXUFE at the time specified in the Admission Notification. To register, applicants shall bring their Admission Notification and other required materials as per the Registration Instructions. Failure to show up on time will be considered as a waiver of admission.
V. Fees
Tuition Fees: Including tuition fees, registration fees, laboratory fees and internship fees as per relevant regulations of SXUFE. For exchange students, tuition fees will be charged in accordance with the agreement between the two parties. A
Accommodation: The rate for accommodation is determined as per the Student Apartment Rate Standards and set at RMB1,200/person/year.
Insurance Premium: Insurance premium is set as per the relevant provisions of the insurance premium for foreign students of Ping An Insurance).
Entry Physical Examination Fee: After international students are enrolled, SXUFE will organize them to go to Shanxi International Travel Healthcare Center for physical examination. The examination fee is set by Shanxi International Travel Healthcare Center).
Residence Permit Fee: The residence permit fee will be charged by the public security entry and exit administration department. The fee varies depending on the periods of the residence permit).
