Fulfilling my dream

This is the part of my life where I decided to reach my goal by getting MBA degree. I have lived and worked in China for more than 10 years and I have been to different places in here. Shanxi province, Taiyuan city was my destination to fulfill my dream. In early September I was notified by university to go there. It made me happy and sad on the other hand. Because I have been living in Gansu province in He Xi Corridor where I got used to it.

I have reached Taiyuan in the morning; coming out of the train station I saw another provincial capital city with skyscrapers. It was not easy for foreigners at the beginning until they have found good friends in a new city. Anyway I started dealing with basic routines to set my life.

People in Taiyuan were friendly and patiently directing me to the right place where I supposed to go. I noticed that the air was cleaner comparing with my previous industrial city and even government in Taiyuan arranged e-taxis to serve the local people. The taxi the driver’s accent were slightly different with tone raising conformation of “ma” in interrogative questions. The driver of a taxi was overweight nice man who tried to understand my foreign Chinese accent. During these days I saw many obese citizens who were struggling to catch up with the work pressure in their offices though.

The first things are first, I went to Shanxi University of Finance and Economics, the huge building located in the center of the city. Our classroom and administration offices were in the Northern Campus. Welcoming and friendly teachers met me and explained all the procedure for the term. Everything was clear, giving tips and willing to help the students. It was beyond my expectations.

After that I went out to the next mission, walking in the street I realized the building were newly built and almost empty with 1/3 population in them, I thought the government spread out the city in order cut the housing cost for the future settlers. The first day I went to the familiar fast food restaurant because I didn`t know the specials of this province but hoping to taste delicious one some other day. Busy city is full of rushing people around. One thing I couldn`t get used to were the PLANES, low flying planes were annoying me, I wish I would be “OK” to them soon. The other day I was walking down the street and came across with “LANZHOU BEEF NOODLES” restaurant. I entered immediately to have a bowl of noodles, the taste was almost the same, and wooden chopsticks were free to use which was the problem in Gansu.

This week will start to have our lessons. I am keen on meeting my college mates and learn from each other to improve our understandings in all aspects. My impression on this city is great and willing to learn about local history, culture and modern life style more on any occasion.

Shanxi University of Finance and Economics is my choice to further my education. Founded in 1951, it is one of the forerunners among all the universities of Finance and Economics in China. Adhering to the university motto of “Be virtuous, faithful, erudite and truthful” and the entrepreneurial spirit of Shanxi merchants “Be courteous, honest, diligent and pioneering”, SXUFE has made great achievements in talent-cultivating, scientific research, social service and international exchanges, significantly contributing to the advancement of economy and society, both locally and nationally. So far, there are over 150 thousand students who have graduated from SXUFE and are working now in various parts at home and abroad. Now, SXUFE is committed to building up a distinctive high-level university of Finance and Economics.

The opening ceremony warm welcomed everyone. The speeches were given by professors inspired us and made our goals even clearer.

It hasn`t been even a month we have been unified and had a gathering with overseas students who are not in the campus recently for a reason.  During my stay I`m going to gain more knowledge which Shanxi University of Finance and Economics offers.
